When the Republic became the Empire, however, the Judicial Forces and planetary militias were expanded, becoming the Empire’s Imperial Army while the most fanatic and ruthless of the Empire’s citizens replaced the Clones as Imperial Stormtroopers. Notably, the Clones mostly served as ground troops and starfighter pilots, and thus there were numerous non-Clones within the Republic Navy, often commanding and crewing vessels carrying the elite Jedi and Clones.
The Grand Army of the Republic, mostly comprised of Clone Troopers and Jedi Knights, is an unusually small fighting force for a galaxy-spanning war, though they managed to hold their own against the CIS by sheer skill alone most of the time.
